Making big decisions when you have a family: 3 Things to think about before making a big decision

Cheri, July 25, 2024July 25, 2024

It’s was on our hearts for a few years now but it always felt too scary that we let fear hold us back. After visiting AZ every year for the last 6 years we started to seriously consider the possibility of moving. We casually did some researching and came across a new build model home we absolutely fell in love with … it was literally the house I had pictured and dreamed about for years. In March 2023 when we visited AZ we found a subdivision with that house and on our way to the airport to fly back home to WI we stopped at this house to walk through. We quickly chatted with the agent and she said she would stay in touch since it was a new build community and more lots would be released in the future.

Well a few months later we got a call from her that more lots were being released. Here was the big moment we went back and forth  but literally had no idea what to do … it was the scariest decision we have made and knew we needed to leave it up to God. So we prayed about it and the night before we had to give the agent an answer we did our family devotional and it was the story of God telling Abraham to move to a new land and to trust him… we looked at each other and said ok God were doing this.

Many people thought we were crazy building a house in a different state but I gotta say we were incredibly blessed with an amazing agent and builder. The whole process just flowed which was such a blessing. I definitely know this move was God lead and God guided because anything we needed to coordinate or figure out just came together so perfectly!

This was not an easy decision for us … being that my husband and I never lived outside the city we grew up in. We had lots of friends and family near by and were close with them so leaving our community was sad and scary.

Knowing the opportunities that this move would give us and the life experiences we would have as a family we knew as hard as this move would be we knew God was calling us to do this and we had complete faith he would be there guiding us along the way .

Making any kind of big life decision is hard especially when you have children … whether it’s a move to a new city …. Across country … a job change … expanding your family I wanted to share a little advice ….

  1. First and honestly my biggest piece of advice is to seek the lord – bring it to God and ask him for his guidance on this decision… and patiently pray on it .
  2. Don’t rush into anything- big life decisions are a BIG deal … if you feel pressure to make a quick decision or this decision is causing upheaval in your relationships then maybe God is saying not right now… when he blesses a decision there will be a sense of ease and peace … if it feels too hard then maybe it’s a sign it’s not in his plan.
  3. Evaluate Your Reasons: Understand why you feel called to move.. change jobs or whatever big life decision is on your heart. Whether it’s for career opportunities, a better environment for your family, or personal growth, clarity on your reasons will help you make a more informed decision.

🍃Big life change is hard …. The unknowns are scary but  if we feel led by God to try .. go with your gut and trust in him. Sometimes we are called out of our comfort zone because God wants to do something in our lives we never dreamed possible. God only wants to bless us so when we put our trust in him and allow him to work in and through us an amazing things can happen.

Through this experience of making a big move we get the opportunity to show our children we can do hard things. We get to show them that we can bring anything to God through prayer he will be there to support us and guide us. Together we get to embark on a new life journey full of new opportunities and experiences creating memories we will never forget.

🍃Curious who here has ever moved a long distance with their family.. if so where did you move to?
